How to find partners and affiliates in 4 easy steps

This week’s brilliant question comes from Yvonne: “How do you find joint venture partners and affiliates?”

Yvonne, this is a great ask, and one I know so many women watching are going to appreciate because this is when big time nerves come in…and create a little havoc.

It takes courage and confidence to talk about our programs and services and invite others on board to celebrate them with us. But here’s the good news:

This doesn’t have to be scary. Actually, it can be crazy fun!

So let’s get into it, shall we?

Step 1: The most important thing to do first is to get really clear on two things:

  1. What is the purpose of your connection with a partner or affiliate?
  2. How is the opportunity you want to share with them going to impact the world for the greater good?

Yep, these are BIG questions. But, if you take the time to answer, it will increase your clarity massively – and clear, worldly passion is what translates into engaged, excited JV’s and affiliates.

Hot tip: Even more important is connecting with the people you actually want to build relationships and friendships with. This is how you initiate beautiful future collaborations and memories that go far beyond business transactions.

Step 2: You’re clear on how your programs will impact the world. Now, it’s time to get clear about the right people to take on this mission with you.

  1. What kind of person do you want to connect with?
  2. Why do you want to share the opportunity to promote your program with that specific person?

If you don’t know who these partners are yet, research online blogs, websites, companies, events and conferences that relate to the problem you want to solve, or the people you’re here to serve through your business.

Step 3: It’s connection time!

Start by checking LinkedIn, or asking friends if they know your dream partners personally.

Then, see if these people are attending or speaking at any events you could join too.

Attending events in-person is the best way to make connections. If you don’t know who your ideal JV partners are, attending events where other coaches and influencers hang out is a great way to find find inspiration.

Hot tip: Do not ask for anything the first time you connect! Instead, reach out with the intention of adding value to their life and business before you ask them for anything, ever.

Here’s how I worked my way towards a big ask, once upon a time:

The amazing Nathalie Lussier was someone I very much wanted to connect with, and I noticed she was leading her first live event, Off the Charts: LIVE.

Because I knew she must have been nervous and on a budget (this was her big premiere as a live event leader!), I offered to come to the event and film video testimonials for her. For free.

I didn’t just say “If you need help, let me know,” I offered a specific value. She said yes, and a new friendship with a heavy hitting influencer was born!

From there, once you’ve added value to them and their business in some way, then you can introduce your why and your reason for wanting their specific support.

The only time I feel it’s powerful and acceptable to reach out for something from someone you don’t know is when you are requesting to interview them, and promoting them to your list.

This is why many new coaches build their list and affiliates by doing a telesummit interviewing experts on the topic leading up to the launch of their program.

Step 4: Offer commission incentives!

Once you’re ready to invite your affiliates to join the party, it’s time to outline their incentives.

Offer to promote them to your audience, with an affiliate commission for for anyone from their community who clicks on their unique affiliate link, generated by an online tracking company. (There’s a link to one of these below this video!)

So let’s recap real quick:

Step 1 – Get super clear about your why in the world
Step 2 – Pin down who your specific dream JV or affiliate partner is
Step 3 – Attend events and build solid relationships before you ask for anything
Step 4 – Offer sweet incentives

Follow these 4 steps, and you’ll see major success with affiliates and JV partners!
