How to Become that “Sexy Guru” Everyone Follows

September 9th, 2015 | 4 comments

We all know  performances can move people deeply, emotionally.

But as a coach and leader, you want to motivate people to do more than just feel. You want them to act.

Easier said than done though, right? And, when you’re still a small fish in the big sea, it’s hard to avoid feeling like you’re just shouting your best ideas and advice into a vacuum.

So — how do the leaders whose work and ideas we cling to (like Oprah, Deepak Chopra, Marianne Williamson, and Tony Robbins) inspire us into action, while other coaches with similar ideas and suggestions just end up being ignored.

That’s exactly what we’re getting into on today’s episode.

If you’re feeling ready to step into the role of beloved guide and guru, watch today’s video, my love!

The best (and only) way to move people off their booties and into action that aligns with your message, is to clearly state what you want them to do, and work in an emotional pull that actually resonates with your audience.

That is the difference between sounding like a “know-it-all”, and actually helping your audience accomplish what you’ve inspired them to dream about. (Which is what you’re here to do in the first place, right?)

What’s the first step of positioning yourself as a true, compassionate, powerful leader people really want to listen to? Get to know your audience.

Most audiences fall into 4 categories:

  1. Doers
  2. Suppliers
  3. Influencers
  4. Innovators

You need to know who you’re talking to, what they want, what they’re capable of, and how they like to work.

Here’s a little peek at the personalities you’ll find in each of these categories:

  1. Doers – these folks are hard workers, and the kind of people who know how to get shit done, and motivate others into action.
  2. Suppliers – these people have resources (whether money, people, or material) to help you and your peeps get what they need.
  3. Influencers – this group is in an ah-mazing position to encourage others to adopt your ideas.
  4. Innovators – these are your idea people! They think outside the box, create strategies, and love hearing about and using new perspectives and products.

Now, once you’ve ID’d your audience, you need to make it clear what you need to accomplish with a strong why that will pull them in.

Think before you kick off your message: Why is this action important for the greatest good of my audience, and the world?

The next phase of sharing your wisdom with your audience is to start elaborating on your ideas.

Vulnerability is key here! If you have a personal story, or a way that this challenge was real and hard for you but you overcame it, share that! It will instantly pull them in, and show them you relate.

As you share that message, use discrete tasks and deadlines when you begin to give them the action steps.

People are more likely to follow suggested deadlines and steps than direct orders.

Tell how the action will benefit the audience. When you paint a clear picture of the pleasure and opportunities that will unfold for them if they do this action, they are more likely to jump to it.

You’re a guru — and that means you’re a teacher. So, at the end of your speech, you should also share with your people, very clearly, why you believe in this work, and how what they are going to do will affect their lives, your life, and the planet

Now sisters, this is a BIG lesson, and I’d love to hear your take in the comments below.

What is YOUR mission? Do you have one?

If you had a room full of people on the edge of their seats waiting to support you, and willing to take action on whatever it was you said… what would you want them to do?

What could they do that would make our world, your life, and their lives a better place?

I can’t wait to hear it. Share your thoughts with the community, and let your light shine bright in those comments! I’ll see you down there.

Oh, and don’t forget about your gift in today’s email!

  1. Jeannine! I love this new insight to not only share what you want your audience to do, but also to know which category your audience falls into and develop your action step within that as well. This is a super helpful tip to use in life coaching, school, work, … pretty much everywhere. Right now, my message would be for people to really start listening in to their true desires. It’s only when one’s clear on those that we can start taking action and shaping our lives in that direction.

    • Totally agree Camila! It’s amazing how much can unfold when you find authentic clarity about what you want. Beautiful work sister. I love how some life coaching tools can be universally helpful in seemingly unrelated places.
