How To Make Yourself Stand Out as a Life Coach

September 26th, 2017 | 4 comments

Sister, I wish you were here with me in Sonoma for The Captivating Feminine Leadership Retreat! I cannot even begin to express how powerful this week has been connecting with my clients in person and taking our relationship and work together to new depths of soul and purpose.

I’ll have more to say next week when I return home. I wanted to take a step away from circle to connect with you today for our weekly wake-up call.

It’s Coaching Business Q&A Week here on Wake Up Wednesday! Today we have a sister from our tribe joining me with a question that’s been on her mind as she’s launching and growing her coaching business.

Want to listen in and learn along with us? Let’s do it!

Jenn McKay, Change Coach, Human Resources Specialist and Mentor Masterclass grad is dropping by to jam on her coaching questions today. From career changes to other times of growth, Jenn is passionate about helping her clients find the paths, strength and courage to break through whatever barriers are keeping them from the lives they deserve.

Jenn brought an amazing question with her – and I have a feeling it will resonate with you, too:

How can I differentiate myself as a life coach and find my unique voice?

PRESS PLAY on the video below for my answer to Jenn’s awesome question, or just keep on reading.

The two words that stand out for me in Jenn’s question are differentiate and unique.

Differentiate

I have some great news: you don’t have to do anything to differentiate yourself and be unique! Because you already are unique. Regardless of how many others are coming into the coaching field, there’s no one else exactly like you, who brings the gifts that you bring. No one else is even close!

From here, it’s up to you to create the space to remember (or maybe discover for the first time) what’s different about you…because it’s already there.

Unique

When it comes to finding your unique voice, I always come back to why high-quality training and sisterhood are both so important to your coaching practice. Being unique is never about competition – it’s about recognition.

And when you’re standing in sister circle, it’s the perfect environment to ask yourself powerful questions like:

  • What are some things that really excite me, that might be different from most of the other women around me?

  • What kinds of problems do people come to me with, knowing I’m the one who can help them?

Set aside time to reflect on your story, remind yourself of where you’ve been. For me, I love looking through old photo albums to jumpstart the reflections.

From there, you can start to share who you are through your branding. For example, when you come into my house, it’s decorated just like my website! I wanted my website to be unique to me, so I didn’t waste time comparing my website to others. I just shared who I was.

When you share your stories and parts of who you are, you can’t help but set yourself apart. For example, a huge part of my story is that I was born to drug-addicted parents who lived mediocre lives. This fueled a fire in me to seek tools and resources to better my life and then share those resources so other women could move out of mediocre lives and into running their own coaching businesses they love. The tools and techniques are what makes it all possible, and so Mentor Masterclass was born.

When I share this story with my website visitors and readers it makes me relatable. Maybe they’ve had drug-addicted parents or similar struggles themselves. They might be seeking sisterhood and can relate to the mindset of the lone warrior, which was once my own mindset.

Are plenty other coaches out there teaching similar concepts? Of course! But no one shares my unique story, and I have a unique brand because I share it. You can do the same thing!

When you share who you are, people will get to know you and realize you’re the only one they want to work with.

Let Jenn and me know in the comments…

How do you set yourself apart and find your voice?

Is there anything you’d like to add to my answer to Jenn’s question?

  1. Thanks so much for this incredible insight. This video really addressed the issue of how to differentiate yourself and be unique. The answer is ” be yourself”. Love it. So simple yet so true 🙂

  2. I love this! And having been in your home Jeannine, I can vouch for the fact that it’s a bit like stepping into your website 😉 It’s all just so much your style!

I’d like to add, that embracing our unique stories gives us the unapologetic confidence to be ourselves. Knowing that my unique voice is what will attract the right clients to me, helps me take any judgements about my way of doing business, or what and how I share, and let them go. Not everyone is going to “like” us and the way we show up, but that’s all a part of how we really make sure we are showing up in exactly the way that others are going to love and resonate with.

    • Thank you for adding that Christine. I witness that you are finding this exact groove, dance and relationship to the way you share yourself on social media. You are so authentic and curious in the promotion of your work and program Chakra Needs. It has been an eye opening journey supporting you and witnessing how you evolve as you come to know yourself, your tribe and the soul of your business more and more each waking day. I love you sister!

      Thank you!

      Jey
