What To Do If You’re More Woo-Woo Than Your Clients

December 16th, 2015 | no comments

Happy Wake Up Wednesday, Love!

I’m so excited and in love with these Q&A episodes I get to share with you each month. They’re real questions from coaches who work with me, or who watch Wake Up Wednesday. These ladies are ready to take their business to new heights, get real, and jam on these questions that will help their business. Today’s question comes from Elle!

A life coach and sanctuary designer, Elle partners with soulful seekers around the world to grow more peace and spaciousness in their homes and their lifestyles.

She also happens to be joining me in Mentor Masterclass right now, so I get lots of space to work with her and really get to know her. Her question is probably something you may be wondering about yourself!

Elle asks:

“I find that some of my clients are coming to me with a very traditional view of the world.

But I have a very high-vibe, universal-love kind of outlook. In other words, woo-woo!

How do I comfortably bridge that gap for my clients?

I totally get it! We all have different ways of being in the world. Our personal practice, our rituals, and the magic we believe in. But because everyone has different identities, religious views, and outlooks on the world, your clients could easily be different from you in this area.

You want to make your clients comfortable but also be true to yourself, what you believe in, and what’s worked for you. So how do you bridge this gap?

Check out today’s video for my 3-step process to guide you and your woo-woo!

#1 – Develop a relationship of trust – with yourself.

Trust in your beliefs. They’re there for a reason, sister!

I’ve found that my beliefs about the world are always growing. For example, I got introduced to the power of crystals while on retreats and during sisterhood circles. And I’ll be honest with you: I used to think the idea was a little crazy! I’d walk past crystals in a shop and think “I don’t get it. That’s a little silly!”  But now? I pray to them, speak to them, and surround myself with them.

But in the meantime, I found myself hiding this from my husband a little bit. I just didn’t quite want to explain to him about what was going on with me and my crystals!

Looking back, part of it might have been that I didn’t even fully understand these new things I was learning. I was still reflecting on these new tools and deciding what role they’d play in my life. I had to learn to trust myself before I could get excited to share what I was learning. So my advice to you?

Before you bring these newer elements into your coaching practice, first learn how to share these parts of your life with your spouse, parents, and friends!

Learn to explain why they’re such strong parts of your life! Get comfortable sharing what they’ve done for you. Share your excitement!

For me, there was something about the confidence held by the women who taught me about crystals. I wanted that confidence, too, and I wanted these other resources that were available to me. It sounded weird the first few times I was exposed to crystals, but I was also fascinated. It was calling out to a part of me that really wanted that change and that personal growth. It was the women who had the confidence to reveal it to me that led me to open up my mind, expand my resources, and learn something new.

So give yourself permission to get excited about your woo-woo.

Be that confident, excited person for someone else in your life! Be fearless in sharing your woo-woo in your personal life.

#2 – Ask your clients’ permission to introduce your woo-woo into your coaching practice.

You can say something like, “Listen, the first time I started using crystals (or learning about goddesses, or any other technique) I thought it was weird! But now I’d love to share with you how they work in my life. I’m not trying to convert you, I would just love to share with you some things I’ve seen, and if you’re interested I’ll share more with you. Is this something you’re interested in hearing more about?”

You can lovingly give your clients the space to let you know that they’re not comfortable with it, too. Someone might say to you, “Listen, I’m a Christian and I don’t believe in goddesses. I really don’t want to hear about that.”

But if you do get their permission, that’s a beautiful invitation to start slowly integrating it into your work with them.

For instance: some clients will even be uncomfortable with meditation! So it might not be the best idea to start a session off with an in-depth visual meditation for someone who hasn’t done one before. Instead, you might want to ask them to just notice their breathing and take three deep breaths.

Always be asking yourself: What’s the integration level that will be most comfortable for my client? How can I take a step-by-step approach?”

For guidance on this, just think back to when you were first introduced to this new practice. What made it comfortable for you back then? Then pay it forward with your clients now!

#3 – As your beliefs grow and become a bigger part of who you are, you might want to stop calling in clients who are resistant to the woo-woo.

When you don’t honor where you’re at and the things you believe in, a whole area of your expertise is missing from your client sessions. You’re not utilizing the part of you that’s probably most on fire! And you’re not actually giving to your full capacity with your clients.

Sister, it’s absolutely okay to acknowledge that there’s a growth process in your consciousness! You’ll find yourself wanting to call in clients who are in a higher state of consciousness. It might be time to ask yourself:

Who am I really serving here? What’s my niche?

This doesn’t mean you’re getting rid of anybody or pushing anybody out. It just means you’re making room for the people who most appreciate your gifts!

Are you’re ready to talk about it and share your woo-woo? Then go do it!

The real magic happens in the comments, so I’d love to hear:

  • What are your woo-woo techniques and tools that you might be keeping hidden from your partner, family, friends, or clients?
  • How did you bridge these gaps and share this part of yourself?

Elle and I will be right there with you in the comments, sharing some of our experiences with hiding our woo-woo and how great it feels to be confident enough to share it with our clients!
