Where to find the soul-powered inspiration to create your next life coaching program

May 27th, 2015 | 2 comments

Today’s question comes from the totally amazing Jaclyn Wallach, a transformative career coach and intuitive leader.

“There are a lot of times when I feel really stuck trying to create something really profound and needed for my clients. I’d love to put something out in the world world where I don’t feel stuck and will really help and create a beautiful place for my tribe and my clients.

So, where do you get the inspiration for your programs so you can help your own tribe?”

This is such a fun question Jaclyn. And, I’ve got a really great way of relating to inspiration and creation that I can share with you in today’s episode.

In today’s episode, we talk about 2 specific parts of creating your next program:

1. Looking to the outside world, and
2. Moving inward to your own inner guidance.

In the video, I share with you why these are so important and how to use them to make your next program or service completely amazing.

First, let’s talk about inspiration itself.

Inspiration is defined as the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially something creative.

It’s also defined as a sudden brilliant, creative, or timely idea, AND (and this is my favorite one) as the the drawing in of breath.

Mmmmmmm. That last definition gives me chills every time. And it relates to the process I want to share with you in a very specific way:

The inspiration-to-creation process is a lot like breathing.

There are two parts to every breath, right? In and out. Inhale, exhale.

Lots of things happen when you breathe, both inside and outside of your body.

When you inhale, you flood your body with oxygen and energy. When you exhale, you rid your body of carbon dioxide which can build up in the blood.

Our animal and plant kingdoms have a similar symbioses. Plants perform photosynthesis, which consumes carbon dioxide and turns it into oxygen for animals to breathe.

This beautiful dance relates perfectly to the creative process and birthing new ideas in the world.

In order for our business, messages, and souls to survive and thrive, we must breathe in inspiration and then breath out creation.

Just as there are two parts to a breath, there are two important steps to find inspiration for your coaching programs, your products, live workshops, speeches and events.

What’s are the two parts of the process? Intrinsic and extrinsic focus on resources.

Inspiration Part 1

Extrinsic focus: Looking for the issue outside of yourself

Everything I create in my coaching business begins by looking for the essential problems of someone, or something, operating outside of my own experience.

This could be a problem I see in the world, someone I care about, or my ideal client.

Ready to take this journey for yourself?

Step 1: Explore the issue.

If you want to get really authentically aligned, you should be playing detective and tuning into the specific problems of your niche group or your ideal clients.

So we start extrinsic focus exploration by asking questions like:

“Who would I love to work with, and what problems are keeping them up at night?”
“What is an actual problem in my audience’s life that needs to be solved?”
“If my ideal client had a solution or a path to a solution that would make their life significantly better, what would be it?”

Step 2. Research

I research everything I can about that problem and look for the answers I don’t know. I start sleuthing for things like:

“What solution already exists for this problem?”
“Is there a desire that is still not being met even if someone else is delivering the solution?”
“Is there a new way to deliver this information that doesn’t exist?”
“Is there a way to make it easier or more accessible to the people desiring to solve this problem?”
(And, my personal favorite) “Is there a way to make it more fun to solve this problem?

Step 3: Get reading

I personally read books, blogs, expert interviews, and documentaries, as well as take courses, connect, and talk to mentors who have experience solving this problem.

I explore mastermind options for solving this problem in my own life, or I take a workshop that addresses this topic and collect all the ideas that resonate and inspire me.

(Remember that breath in? This is all part of that)

Now, it’s time to turn this into something else and release it out into the world in a way our kingdom can utilize it.

Part two of the process: intrinsic resources. These are the reflections that live wholly inside of me and you.

They are the natural and essential insights we have uniquely and individually acquired through our unique life experience.

Inspiration Part 2

Intrinsic focus: Creating the solution from within

Just like extrinsic focus, intrinsic focus requires some inquiry, research, and exploration.

Step 1: Decide how what you’re about to create will serve and honor your dream lifestyle

Before I create any kind of program or service, I get really clear about my ideal way of living and loving the work I do.

My mission in this world is to LOVE my life and be fully awake in it.

That means I need to create and deliver my services in a way that feels completely aligned, so that I actually love being present to do my work.

Here’s an example of why considering your lifestyle is so important:

If my ideal lifestyle is to spend time with my family and enjoy my home here on the beach in the summer, and I create a program that runs from June-August… I’ve just fucked myself out of my dream life!

On the flip side, if I considered my dream lifestyle FIRST, I would have created a group program in March that runs once monthly for 40 people, and requires two hours a week of my time total.

So I’m done by June, and the program was still easy-peasy for me.

Now I’m tapped into my ideal way of spending my time in service. Most people forget this step and want to punch themselves in the face, like “What was I thinking!” later. Don’t be that person!

Step 2: Ask the important questions

Now you’ve figured out how you want this program to fit with your dream life, it’s time to examine how it fits in with everything else.

“How does this idea or project fit into the desire I have for my personal values, and how I uniquely like to connect with my clients?”

“Am I passionate about solving this problem and do I have a personal opinion and ideas to share around this?”

Step 3: Start the creation process

Just like focus, creation starts with a critical question, namely:

“How do I desire to bring this into creation and in what form am I going to help this person or the world solve this problem?”

Translation? “How the eff am I gonna deliver this thing?”

In person, online, phone, product, 1:1, group, workshop, speech, on going program, mastermind, or retreat style are all great options.

This is where I start to mix up the extrinsic and intrinsic resources I’ve collected and clarified.

You merge them to create your own version of information and delivery.

Step 4. Figure out your rewards

Ask yourself:

“What is the energetic exchange that feels comparable for my time and energy investment?”
“What is the value I believe this brings into the world for the greater good, and what amount of payment is comparable in adding value to my life?”
“What is the exact reward or profit I desire to make from solving this problem and investing my creative genius into this mission?”

One final note on all of this is to remember:

It’s not worth creating if you are not going to have fun, be present and remember creating it with love.

Please infuse every creation with your personal touch of passion, play and personality!

And that’s how you breathe in inspiration for your next program, and breathe out something your friends, followers and tribe will knock down the door to get in on.

Remember the 3 parts of the intrinsic process. They are your essential biz power!

Desire (Your Hunger)
Creation (Your Talent)
Reward (Your Wealth)

And that’s it. Thanks so much for this question Jaclyn!
