Walk With Me, Ep. 20: Growing Your Life Coaching Business While Doing Less — With Best-Selling Author Kate Northrup
Today we get to walk with the amazing Kate Northrup — who’s taking a walk around her cozy Maine neighborhood as she chats with us in today’s brand new episode!
I’m in love with Kate’s new book Do Less: A Revolutionary Approach to Time and Energy Management for Busy Moms — and it resonated with me so deeply. It’s packed with wisdom for working women and mothers who are ready to rid themselves of the brainwashed belief that their worth is connected to their productivity.
If you’re ready to instead create a personal and professional life that’s based on presence, meaning, and joy as opposed to fitting it all in, while still growing your business… you’re going to love this episode of the podcast with Kate.
I first met Kate four years ago while speaking at a retreat in Costa Rica, when we were both building our families (we were each pregnant with daughters at the time) and, as always, our businesses. Four years later, I’m right back in a similar space — expecting another baby girl in the fall. And while I’ve collected so many new resources and achieved growth and redefined my beliefs along the way, I find myself in a similar struggle going through an identity change again…
As you’ll hear me share with Kate, I’ve uncovered a divinely orchestrated desire to slow down, savor life, and enjoy it. I’m also seeing this same desire in other driven women who have big work they want to do in this lifetime.
To keep my business going, my intuition says it’s time for new innovation, and I’ve held a belief that new creation requires doing more. But everything else in my life is calling me to slow down and a deep inner wisdom is asking me to simplify and do less.
So, is that maintenance mode?
How do I slow down, while innovating, having a baby and not going into “maintenance mode”?
How can I go all-in with one thing when I have an infant and a business that’s ready to expand?
I couldn’t wait to ask Kate about being able to do less while still having a sense of exponential growth in my business.
And Kate cut right to the heart of it. We’ve been brainwashed by our culture into believing that the more we work, the more successful we’ll be, she explained.
It’s not about doing more, it’s about focusing on what’s important. Kate shared that what’s so fascinating about cycles, seasons, and how nature works, is that when we focus on funneling our creative energies into something new, our creative innovative energy can become more powerful.
We need to focus more, and be more creative and innovative. Not do more things.
Isn’t that refreshing? It’s been aligned with what we’ve been talking about in this series all along. And Kate is just getting started with insights that are connecting all the walks we’ve had so far…
