How to Handle Fearing Success and Overwhelm of Creative Ideas for Your Coaching Business

June 24th, 2015 | no comments

Today’s episode of Wake Up Wednesday features a question from a faaaabulous sister in my tribe: Joanne Tucker. She really wants to know (and I bet you do too):

“Now that I’m making headway in my coaching business… all this momentum is kind of freaking me out! How did you manage the anxiety and fear when your coaching dream started coming true?”

Ah-ha! This is a feeling I know all too well.

Back when I hit my first double 6-figure month, I found myself wanting to pull back and hide, rather than lean in and celebrate the milestone.

I remember talking about it with my dear friend, Nisha Moodley.

Why do I feel like hiding? This was my big goal! The one I’d declared to my sister circles, opened up to receiving, and outlined in my manifesto. Shouldn’t I love standing in the spotlight?

I did so much inner and outer work to reach this goal. I reverse engineered it, broke it down into bite-sized action steps, and then I did it!

2,500 women joined us for the holiday challenge.
There were 3,000 new people on my email list.
My inbox was exploding with inquiries and questions.
The Mentor Masterclass was sold out completely, and we had a wait list with women paid and ready for future spots as they open, with applications still rolling in.

But, rather than feeling grounded and excited…I felt like I wanted to hide. And, I questioned how I could handle all of this new exposure and responsibility.

Nisha shared a story with me about a conversation she had with Danielle LaPorte. Watch today’s video for the full story.

Danielle said she feels like a stallion when she is in the momentum of her business. Nisha was surprised because she felt more like a tortoise.

That made me laugh because Nisha had already created an empire for herself! I wondered, how could she feel like a tortoise?!

But what she meant was, during a launch, she focused on coming out of her shell, and moving slowly but steadily forward towards her goals. Then, when she crossed the finish line, she’d retreat back into peace and quiet for a while.

So it made me think: what did I feel like during a launch? What was my animalistic approach to business? What is my flow?

I feel a like a tiger during a launch, who just so happens to be my spirit animal.

While this might sound like a contrast to the hiding out I just shared with you, it actually makes perfect sense. Tigers rest in the shade all day, and begin to hunt for food at dusk. They hunt their prey in split second movements, with retractable claws. And after the hunt, they’ll nourish their bodies with rest and rejuvenation.

That’s me. I figure out how to get what I want and then go after it, before my fear has enough time to stop me in my tracks. I then rest and unplug completely until the next time I’m ready to pounce into “go mode”.

It’s not a daily cycle – it’s more like one month off and three months on. So when my “hunt” is over, I’m happy to pull back, cleanse, and just make do with what I have before I build the courage to seek better again.

My journey during that epic launch period was in finding ways to thrive, not just survive. To do what I love, and receive abundance through the balance of following my hustle with ease and flowing nourishment.

Understanding that all feminine power shows up in different ways, and learning mine, was a huge shift in trusting my process rather than judging it.

But how do you keep growing after the overwhelm starts to set in? How do you welcome in more possibility when you’re feeling exposed?

That brings us to our handy little reframe for those moments of panic when your dreams are coming true.

You have to remember that it’s your job to feel into the pace you’re uniquely drawn to and realize that it’s a part of your calling.

What is your calling?

It’s that thing you just can’t stop thinking about. Even if you may think to yourself “that’s crazy,” or “I’m not really going to do that it’s to big for me!”, there’s an energy that draws you in and an obvious ecology that supports taking action on this thing.

It’s the lessons that keep showing up in your life, it’s the training and the books you can’t resist.

And, when the timing is right, all things align, and you know: I must move forward with this. I’m not only a student of this, I am meant to teach this.

It’s your job to surrender to your calling.

Surrendering means creating the space to hold onto your calling and listen to the energy you feel around it. Create room in your heart to allow desire to flow through you and into reality.

What stops us is the fear that we’ve never gone so big before, never been so focused or showed up with this much confidence around something. We assume we can’t handle it, so we shut down the creative flow and the momentum and tell ourselves “Not now, I can’t do this.”

But you can. All you have to do is breath into it and create a space of trust and allow it to flow through rather than trying to hold it.

This is your creativity sister!

You can’t tell your creativity to go away and come back later – it doesn’t work that way. You have to let it come in and hang with you while it is in town. Enjoy it’s company.

When creative impulse is pulsing through open the channel, say “This is right. I can work with this.” Then, you use your head to find what’s important here and what you need to do.

Make your new mantra: It’s my job to follow my calling, and I open up to my creative flow.

You’ll know when it’s time to lean in and to rest in the shade, and when momentum is calling it’s time to show up sister. You got this!

Now I want to hear from YOU!

What animal best represents your business flow?

What creature do you relate to the most when it comes to patterns of energy and rest?

Share with your sisters in the comment section below. I love reading all of your thoughts and ideas, and watching your genius shine. So don’t be shy! And then join us in the Wake Up Wednesday Facebook group for even more sisterhood and sharing.
