The Very First Step You Should Take in Your Life Coaching Business

September 27th, 2016 | 1 comment
“What is the first step I should take to become a life coach and start my life coaching business?”

It’s absolutely one of the most common questions I get! And it makes sense—taking that very first step can feel overwhelming when you’re trying to get your brand new life coaching business launched into the world.

I’m so excited to have Halley Ceglia stop by and ask this all-important question for today’s coaching Q&A edition of Wake Up Wednesday! Halley is a clinical social worker, yoga teacher, and soon-to-be life coach who’s studying with us in Mentor Masterclass right now. Through her work, Halley inspires you to set yourself free to travel light. You can find her at Travelightnow.weebly.com.

I have an answer for Halley and all of you ladies wondering about the very first step you should take. Click the video below to see Halley and I work through the answer together.

Investing in high-quality training is absolutely the very first step you should take! If you haven’t had any life coach training, you’re not going to be as successful as you could be.

It’s especially important to talk about today because it’s so easy to make excuses, to get inside your own head, and to put it off until later.

Have you found these excuses creeping into your mind?

  • I don’t need the training, I can just read the books.

  • I’ve had a coach before.

  • I listen to plenty of podcasts, I should be fine.

  • I’ll just study really hard and do it on my own!

You may even bring plenty of skills from your past careers and stages of life to the table. But life coaching truly is its own art and profession! There’s no substitute for coaching skills training and supervised practice. It might even be more difficult for you to break out of old patterns if you’ve already had a successful career in another field.

Watch the video to dive even deeper and learn:

  • What can happen if you don’t have 100% confidence as a coach (and what we as life coaches have in common with surgeons!). (It’s at the 3:05 point in the video.)

  • Why you need a community of up-and-coming coaches learning along with you. (5:42)

  • What to do after you’ve got the training, but you still feel overwhelmed! What do you do, then? (6:25)

  • Why you’ll need coaching, even after you’re a coach yourself! (8:12)

It’s tough sometimes, but don’t get distracted by websites, marketing tricks, photography, etc., until you’ve invested in training and coaching for yourself. Your life coaching business will always come back to you!

All my love,

Jey
